Rattan Shaker Doors - Bring warmth and texture
We've always loved the way rattan can soften a kitchen design. Combining natural cane webbing with classic shaker cabinetry creates a look that's full of texture and character, while still feeling timeless. At Foxstow, we make our rattan shaker and slimline shaker doors to order and can colour-match them to virtually any off the shelf paint colour, giving homeowners plenty of flexibility to create a look that's uniquely their own.

What are rattan doors?
Our rattan doors use natural square cane webbing applied to a painted panel. Unlike traditional open-frame applications, the panel behind the weave is finished in the customer's chosen colour before the rattan is fitted.
This allows the colour to subtly show through the weave, creating depth and a truly bespoke appearance. Because we colour-match to virtually any off-the-shelf paint colour, homeowners can create rattan doors that complement any interior scheme.

How rattan cane webbing is fitted
For those considering a DIY project, preparation is key.
Natural cane webbing is supplied in rolls and should be soaked in lukewarm water for around 20–25 minutes before installation. This softens the material and makes it easier to work with.
Once damp, the webbing can be stretched into position and secured. As it dries, it naturally tightens, helping to create a smooth, taut finish. If the material is fitted dry or without sufficient tension, it can become loose or wavy over time.
How we manufacture our rattan doors
At Foxstow, our process includes:
- Manufacturing the door with a rebated panel section ready to receive the cane webbing.
- Finishing the panel in the customer's chosen paint colour.
- Cutting the cane webbing oversized.
- Soaking the webbing until it becomes pliable.
- Carefully aligning the weave pattern before fixing.
- Securing the webbing while damp so it tightens as it dries.
- Trimming away excess material.
- Fitting a cover bead to create a neat finish on the rear of the door.
Why craftsmanship matters
While there are plenty of DIY tutorials available online, achieving a professional result definitely requires a craftsman's eye.
At Foxstow, we're a cabinetry company first and foremost. For us, the rattan is only one part of the finished product. Equal attention has to be given to the quality of the door, the paint finish, the alignment of the weave and the overall balance of the design.
The weave pattern needs to run straight, tension needs to be consistent across the panel, and every door needs to match the next. Small inaccuracies that might go unnoticed on a single door can become very obvious when several doors are installed together in a kitchen.
Like many traditional materials, it's the attention to detail that makes all the difference.
