Finding History in the Grain: Why Raw European Timber Matters for Bespoke Wardrobes & Kitchens
At the Foxstow workshop in Oxfordshire, we take great pride in the raw materials we select. We routinely take delivery of high quality, sustainably sourced European timber. Every premium oak or ash plank we choose will eventually become a bespoke fitted wardrobe, a custom kitchen island, or handmade shaker doors designed to last a lifetime.
Recently, a special delivery from a sawmill in Italy gave our team a massive surprise. While we were planing the raw timber down, something suddenly got stuck in our workshop machinery. We paused the lines, took a closer look at the grain, and found this:

Yes, it was a bullet, that had got cut in half.
We are curious how it ended up in the timber. Because the timber was sourced from rural Italy, it’s highly likely this tree stood witness to historic events perhaps dating back to World War II or a mid-century hunting trip. Over the decades, the tree simply grew around the metal, hiding its secret until our British craftsmanship brought it to light.
Whether we are transforming a bedroom with custom oak slimline shaker wardrobes or tailoring a new kitchen layout, our process always starts with the absolute finest raw materials.
We’d love to help you write the next chapter of your home’s history.
