This project was all about creating a new island which would sit beautifully alongside the existing kitchen, bringing a much brighter, more spacious feel to the open-plan kitchen and dining area.
The original white Shaker cabinetry was retained, while the new island introduced the warmth and texture of oak. Reeded oak slimline Shaker cabinetry is paired with a white quartz worktop, creating a lighter, more natural contrast with the existing darker worktops.
the defining features is the softly curved end of the island. The reeded oak follows the curve around the cabinetry, creating a lovely flowing detail and a generous seating area for three.
The island was designed with practicality very much in mind, with deep drawers and cupboards providing plenty of useful storage. As the client also runs baking classes from the kitchen, having a large, uninterrupted work surface and easily accessible storage was particularly important.
Rather than replacing the whole kitchen, the new island gave us the opportunity to introduce something quite different while still working comfortably with what was already there.
Sometimes a kitchen doesn’t need to be completely replaced!
